 India # 3

Mumbai's boardwalk is considered "Lover's Lane"

One of Mumbai's prime universities
Typical busy street traffic

Lots of construction--lots of city art
Ladies are watching for oncoming traffic - trying to cross the street
Low cost taxis are filled with passengers
Thousands of people walk to the famous
                         Siddhivinayak Hindu Temple entrance
These small children are oblivious to the crowds
Devout Hindus may have to wait in line for many hours--just to pray
Visitors pray to this main god
This family wants a photo to memorialize their visit
People buy flowers and other offerings to leave inside the building
Candies and other sweets can be used as an offering
This is a rare and expensive flower used for an offering
Everyone removes shoes before they can enter the temple
The women bring so much "color" to the temple area with their saris
Hindus are serious when it comes to the offerings

Plenty of people begging. The girl was pounding on the car window
Buses are old, rundown, crowded          and hot
Time to get away from the high-intensity of the city and stroll through the "Hanging Gardens" park
Unlike the park's name implies, the area has no hanging gardens nor is it very pretty. However, many locals come to the area to relax and enjoy each other's company
Many families find a place to picnic. We were invited to join them.
                                   Snacks are everywhere...
...as well as play areas for children
We were probably a "curiosity" since there were very few                             "westerners" walking through the area
Plenty of temples tucked away on nearby side streets
"Hey, lady...What do you mean you're not going to feed me?"
(Cows are sacred and roam freely through towns)
