                                     Europe April/May #9

Leaving David and Family - Heading to Jerry's sister and husband in Saverne, France

Fast TGV takes 5.5 hours to Strasbourg

Early morning: Saverne train station

All of our luggage took over the train's aisle

"Thousands" of bikes outside Strasbourg train station
Hired driver to take us to Saverne - much easier than taking more trains, moving luggage up and down stairs, navigating train station platforms

Gorgeous yellow flowers all over the countryside that are made into canola oil

Arrived after a day traveling - Barge is > 2000 sq. feet

Back on board with Lisa and Tom

Working our way through a canal lock

Very tight squeeze
We had to watch our heads - low bridge

Dinner time on board: Cheers!

Tom found a delicious mousse cake at a local patisserie

Gorgeous flowers everywhere

Old plaque next to canal

Went for an afternoon walk along canal - peaceful, beautiful, many musical bird sounds - a different experience from our life at home

French Labor Day festivities in Saverne

Very much a small town feeling

These rides swing back and forth, up and down. Not for us!

Bumper cars are always fun

The "Go To" choice for the French

Hidden beauty everywhere

Love the flowers

Water drops and raises many feet to transfer boats from one lock to another

Alsace area: Significant German influence

A step back in time

Local church

Church mural and pretty stain glass window

Beautiful carved pews and place to keep prayer books
