Europe April/May # 16
Zurich
Logistically, meeting our daughter in Italy when we were in a small French village was difficult. Three trains was too difficult with all of our luggage and short transfer times. Renting a car for three hours and dropping off the car in another country was too expensive. Flying wasn't an option. We hired a limo service - not too expensive and the Tesla X had plenty of room for us and the luggage. An hour into the trip we "felt the need" for snack. The driver knew a place located in the middle of no where. This was a "WOW!"
People were lined up trying to buy bread, pastries, etc.
Yum! Too bad we weren't having a party
The Swiss came up with a device that facilitated road construction. This is a movable bridge or overpass.
French/Swiss border
We're close to our Zurich destination
The Bahnhofstrasse is one of our favorite streets in Europe. Plenty of opportunities to "people watch," find delicious food, trying to understand why people are lined up to buy products at all of the designer stores and dream about having an "unmarked" account at one of the Swiss banks
This is the most photographed streets in Switzerland
Plenty of ornate buildings and examples of historical architecture
Interesting watch for sale
Local beer and a delicious homemade quiche. Server was daughter of the owner. Restaurant at this location for thirty-five years. Father getting older and not all of the family members want to enter the business to keep it going. Lots of decisions coming up for the family
Interesting shoe designs
There is always something to see - in all directions
Zurich lake and Versace emblem
We walked around the Swatch store. These watches used to sell for $20. Now, they cost "hundreds" of dollars - and more!
Gourmet snacks
We stayed at the "M" hotel - had the same "feel" as America's "W" chain hotels - modern, clean and plenty of amenities. The comforter and bed were great. Fast internet. Good location. Reasonably priced. Friendly staff.
"Red" was a significant accent throughout the hotel; including the bar
Lots of art throughout the hotel and in the rooms
