Blog # 6: Thailand: Chinatown

                                                 Blog # 6 Thailand: Chinatown

1970 was the first time we were in Thailand
A huge change: Freeways, toll booths and tall buildings

Still, there is a hold over from the old days - local farmers continue to bring food from the fields to the city center

Typical truck has interesting posters on back doors

Modern buildings with a hold over from the old

Bangkok still uses these small trucks - Cables not buried

A definite sign of Chinese culture...

with a touch of Thai influence
Many people wear red for good luck and to bring in the new year

The ship's port is located about three hours from Bangkok -  a very long drive. There was too much to see and too little time. And, of course, it was a three hour back to the ship. Ugh!
Only 15 minutes was allotted for this part of the day. We had to walk very fast down one street where the bus was waiting.
There was very little time to set up a photo. Much like, "eat and run," Jerry took photos as quickly as possible as we (almost) ran to the bus.

                           Getting into the spirit!
Food stalls and restaurants are everywhere
This place is not yet open. Cleaning up! Getting ready for the onslaught of people wanting food to eat!

The entire main street is decorated for the new year

Jerry found his manholes

Just in case you need a red outfit, stores have items ready to go

Check out the dog...and the woman
If there is no time for a sit down meal, locals can "grab and go!"
Need tea? Herbs? Beer? Wine? Sweets? Other goodies? This is the place!

                        Grandma, daughter and grandchild

This restaurant was amazing. People were standing around the block to eat here. Supposedly (according to a local), this is the best in town

A happy time

 Snacks everywhere

In case your home doesn't have enough decorations
One minute left before we board the bus and the next stop on the tour

Wild day - Lynn and Arlene take everything in as does the monk
