Israel (Tel Aviv- Jaffa) # 4, cont.
Entrance to historical part of Jaffa.
Old clock tower built by Ottoman Leader
Jaffa's Al-Bahr mosque.
Jaffa is probably the only place where it's possible to hear the call to prayer by the Moslem Imam, church bells ringing and the call of the shofar
Religious message carved into the Mosque wall
Thousands of years of blowing sand from Africa, compacted over time, provided a solid enough material that could be carved into bricks for constructing buildings. Fossils are embedded into the material
Mosque hallway
Pretty garden. Good for contemplation: Thoughts for peace and one people
Looking out to the Mediterranean Sea
Nice breeze cools off the day
St. Peter's Church
Soft playing religious music provided a quiet ambiance
Each statue behind us represents a zodiac symbol
Jerry rubs his astrological sign (Taurus) on Wishing Bridge
The Gate of Faith: Gate to Israel. Represents the "Promised Land." Indicates Patriarchs, capture of Jericho, the lamb, Moses and Issac story, etc.
More manhole "Street Art!"
Many homes decorated with "Scrap art."
Two thousand year-old passageways now provide access to renovated homes, art shops and eateries
Jaffa has a very old flee market
Fun to look!
Local beer on a hot a day was just the right type of drink
Artichoke and cheese (lavneh) salad
Shakshuka: Tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, cumin topped with an egg.
Comes with challah and side salad
Art: Orange tree growing out of a hanging ceramic gourd/pot: Symbolizes life, etc.
Interesting shops in an old walkway
More (manhole) street art
Outside Peres Center
Dream Big is the motto for the innovative center: Supports Israeli start-ups
Jerry worked on several projects with several Israeli companies and Israeli government
Peres Center is currently working with 6700 Israeli start up companies. It is expected that (only) 2% will be successful. Many other working exhibits were shown. Fascinating place!
Waze was invented in Israel. Other projects are camera in a pill, unique laser devices, medical equipment, new ways to grow food. Another project is taking one cell from a cow and growing it into edible, tasty meat. Cyber-security and military surveillance is a successful technology developed here.
Cement and glass used for building material
Also, the structure becomes an art form at the Center.
