 Blog # 3 - Nova Scotia and Newfoundland/Labrador, Canada

Our "home" for a few weeks

Iona, Cape Breton - Nova Scotia - Canada

The area continues to use/sell soft, polluting coal for energy

Gaelic is spoken throughout the area. Even the longhaired cows "moo" in Gaelic
We visited an area that has put together typical homes of the 18th and 19th Century

The man's weapon can bring down a moose

Nighttime driving is not good for the moose, the car or its driver

Old school - all grades are taught in this room

Church choir music is more of a chant than a melody

No electric cars during this era
Hay and grass was used to "power up" the horses

Costco, Target and Walmart? Nope! Everything was "home made"

Amazon indicated this "bowl and spoon" set is backordered

Keeping the household going was a 24/7 job

A new invention
Another day of site-seeing: Our touring bus
This old train was decommissioned several years ago. A while back there was a big problem. Different areas did not use the same gauge. This meant cargo had to be unloaded and reloaded many times before the train reached its final destination.

Corner Brook, Canada (Province of Newfoundland and Labrador
"Historical" mountain has "mythological men" made out of rock
Try to find the face!

No "Titanic problem" today! We were very lucky! Previous four cruises in this area were cancelled due to unexpected icebergs creating dangerous situations for the ships
Canada is well know for its lupins

We tried growing them at home. No luck!

Most of Canada's maritime provinces are beautiful but also desolate. Weather tends to be nasty most of the year. Country homes are located far apart from each other. Living in this area is tough!

This is NOT a totem pole!

This is a "History" tree that has carvings representing the area's history - Vikings and indigenous people to the present. There is space remaining for future historical events.

Anyone interested in a violin concerto?

It's always fun to check out license plates

National and provincial flags
